Formed working bodies for the establishment and improvement of quality and ethics within the SEA-EU Alliance 13 July 2023

Within the framework of the SEA-EU Alliance, there is a Quality and Ethics Committee with three specific, topic-oriented working groups (Quality of Joint Learning Programs, Ethics, and Data Protection), composed of experts and practitioners of those areas from all partner universities.

The role of the Quality and Ethics Committee is to give recommendations for quality and ethical standards and operational guidelines, to review activities and results in relation to agreed quality and ethical standards and operational guidelines, and advise for improvements. Also, the role of the Committee is to regularly consult with other SEA-EU groups, committees, and boards to improve the alliance’s internal quality system.

The actions to be performed in this task will be:

– Implementation of a Quality Assurance System for SEA-EU Joint Programs (as a supportive body for QA in joint programs);

– Harmonization of all partners and assessment of new challenges (focus on civic engagement, artificial intelligence [AI]…) in terms of the development of the model for digital framework;

– Personal Data Protection Policy (regulations in terms of the personal data and harmonization of the ethics approval procedures);

– Update of the Quality Manual (according to all the newest information, internal procedures of the new partners, etc., in terms of the harmonization among all partners);

– Update of the Ethics Manual (based on the assessments and practices).

Three separate thematic working groups that were established within the Quality and Ethics Committee are specifically topic-oriented:

  • Working Group on Quality of Joint Learning Programs, which is focused on establishing common standards to ensure the highest quality standards in joint learning activities
  • Working Group on Ethics, aiming at harmonizing all partners’ ethics approval procedures.
  • Working Group on Personal Data Protection, due to identify and propose joint policies and procedures in personal data protection across the Alliance.

The nominated representatives of the Quality and Ethics Committee and three working groups at all SEA-EU partner universities are as follows.
