‘The Duty of the Shipmaster to Render Assistance at Sea under International Law’ 15 September 2020


A publication examining the web of applicable international rules regulating one of the most important obligations at sea will be on the shelves as of recently. The study focuses on an assessment of the duty to render assistance in light of contemporary challenges posed by the phenomenon of irregular migration by sea, a problem which has intensified in recent years.

The monograph titled ‘The Duty of the Shipmaster to Render Assistance at Sea under International Law’ is published by Brill and forms part of the Queen Mary Studies in International Law series. It has been written by University of Malta international maritime law specialist, Dr Felicity G. Attard, who also sits on the SEA-EU Mobility sub-committee.

The vision of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) is to establish an international, pluri-ethnic, multilingual and interdisciplinary European University.
