In April 2025, the sun-soaked city of Split became a lively meeting point for students, researchers, and environmental innovators from across Europe. The Faculty of Chemistry and Technology at the University of Split hosted two back-to-back international events, transforming its campus into a space for exchanging ideas, developing solutions, and building partnerships focused on sustainability. The Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and the 5th ZORH International Conference offered a full week of action, insight, and connection—all in the name of a greener future.
Hands-On Learning Meets Real-World Challenges
From April 7 to 11, the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology hosted the Erasmus+ BIP titled “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Chemistry, Chemical and Food Technology”. Organized in partnership with universities from Malta, Gdańsk, and Brest, the programme gathered 57 students and 13 professors from nine European countries.
The programme opened with a welcome from Dean Prof. Dr. Sc. Matko Erceg, followed by remarks from Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Sc. Zoran Đogaš, who highlighted the programme’s role in connecting science and sustainability through practical and collaborative approaches.
Prof. Dr. Sc. Nediljka Vukojević Medvidović, programme coordinator, introduced the week-long activities that included lectures, workshops, and expert visits across eight themed panels focused on green chemistry, circular economy, food systems, and social responsibility. The event also featured contributions from Ana Ćosić, Head of the Office for International and Inter-University Cooperation, and Gordana Dujmović, SEA-EU 2.0 Technical Project Coordinator, who emphasized the significance of SEA-EU partnerships and mobility in shaping a sustainable academic community. The programme concluded with student presentations offering innovative SDG-driven solutions developed through teamwork and real-world learning.
ZORH 5: A Scientific Stage for Environmental Innovation
Running from April 9 to 11, the 5th ZORH International Conference gathered environmental experts, young scientists, and policy thinkers to explore topics like marine pollution, circular economy, microplastics, and the environmental legacy of COVID-19. Presentations were rich with cutting-edge research and fresh perspectives, while informal coffee breaks and networking moments sparked conversations that stretched well beyond the lecture hall.
With opportunities to publish in respected journals, the conference wasn’t just about sharing—it was about shaping the future of environmental science and sustainable practice. It also shone a spotlight on Split as a regional hub for meaningful scientific exchange.
A Shared Vision, A Stronger SEA-EU Alliance
Together, these two events highlighted the University of Split’s growing role as a regional leader in sustainability education and environmental research. Through international collaboration, hands-on learning, and scientific exchange, the events not only advanced academic goals but also strengthened the SEA-EU alliance’s commitment to a sustainable future.
