The SEA-EU Virtual Tandem Language Exchange supports independent and flexible one-to-one language learning. In the international context of the SEA-EU alliance, this virtual partnership (which can also be physical) provides an opportunity to combine language improvement and an intercultural exchange with a native or near-native speaker to the mutual benefit of both partners.

What is it about?

The SEA-EU Virtual Language Exchange allows participants to take part in a one-on-one language exchange with a native or near-native speaker. The program is designed to help participants improve speaking and listening skills while promoting cross-cultural understanding. SEA-EU Virtual Tandem Language Exchange Summary

  • Purpose: Supports independent, flexible one-to-one language learning in an international context, providing an opportunity for language improvement and intercultural exchange with a native or near-native speaker.
  • Learning Approach: Participants take on both learner and teacher roles, focusing on practicing speaking skills. This is not a formal course taught by a teacher, but a language exchange.
  • Organisation of meetings: Participants will be matched into pairs based on their preferences and language skills. The organisation of meetings and their frequency are individual matters for each language pair.
  • Target Audience: Open to students and staff of SEA-EU partner universities.

Conditions of Enrolment

  • Eligibility: Open to students and staff of SEA-EU Alliance universities with a valid institutional email address.
  • Language Proficiency: Learners need at least B1 level (CEFR); teachers should be native speakers or have C2 level (CEFR).
  • Application Process: Kindly register for our programme, we will try to connect you with your Language Buddy! Provide accurate information to increase the chances of finding an appropriate tandem partner.
  • Commitment: Both parties should adhere to mutually agreed-upon parameters for a successful exchange.
  • A suitable language tandem partner is not guaranteed.
  • Participants will not receive certificates or ECTS credits.
  • Participants are encouraged to self-assess their current language skills prior to applying.
