The role of micro- and macroalgae on growth performance of gilthead seabream juveniles Nutrition is the most important environmental factor that determines the growth of animals. Despite its central importance, the mechanisms through which algae play in overall growth remain elusive in most animals. Several micro- and macroalgae species contain bioactive molecules that are associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial proprieties. Therefore, a wide range of compounds are a potential feed additive to include in fish diets that may improve weight gain, feed efficiency, and robustness.
