Pro-environmental behaviors and recycling are critical concerns for every organization, community, and industry. As the United Nations (2015) Sustainable development goals remind us (i.e., 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and 12, Responsible Consumption and production), resources are scarce and require to be better managed and preserved. Consequently, consumption needs to be responsible, more pro-environmental, and recycling behavior promoted (Farrow, Grolleau, & Ibanez, 2017). Therefore, organizations, communities, and residents need to adapt or change their behaviors (Lange, 2023; Lange & Dewitte, 2019). Using experimental methods provides a unique opportunity to identify these behaviors and residents’ perceptions, but also to explore potential cognitive dissonances among the residents. In addition, the attitudes, knowledge, subjective norms, and beliefs for example through the lens of the theory of planned behavior can be explored.
