Within the management field, companies need to consider their product development strategy. In the last couple of decades, “open innovation” has gained much attention in management in organizing the product development process in collaboration with other organizations. In the current research project, we look into the Research Council of Norway database for publicly funded research centers and industry collaborations to identify those projects with the cooperation between partners from industry and the research institutions. We look into preconditions and contingencies to open innovation project management between Norwegian SMEs and strategic partners. We develop a survey database through multi-criteria decision-making methodologies to identify critical factors involved in the open innovation projects. This research project is a collaboration between researchers at Nord University and Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, US).
- Support the leading researchers in identifying missing information in the database to submit a survey. Tools: Excel.
- Review literature about open innovation (learn about tools such as QSR Nvivo)
- Support the leading researchers in the test of the survey and run initial qualitative results of the best-worst method (the tool runs on open source computer language, as JAVA)
As a highly motivated intern, we would like you to learn about business strategy in new product development, open innovation, quantitative methodologies, database management, and survey design and development. Besides an exciting opportunity to strengthen your theoretical knowledge on these issues, you will be able to join a team of US and Norwegian researchers and possibly lead to a scientific publication.
Skills learnt: quantitative methodologies, basic computer programming based on open source languages and programs, training on QSR Nvivo, as well as the design and management of large scale surveys
