The University of Split and the Arts Academy in Split are organizing a group exhibition of graphic works titled “REFLECTIONS OF THE MATRIX”, which will open on Tuesday, October 21, at 7:30 PM at the University Gallery, Ruđera Boškovića 31, Split.
This group exhibition presents the graphic works of seven young artists — former and current students of the Department of Visual Culture and Fine Arts at the Arts Academy in Split.
The exhibiting artists are: Sara Dorčić, Nina Grebenar, Lucia Lukšić, Flora Novak, Ela Pitalo, Ivona Pupačić, and Antonia Vidan.
The works were created during their studies as part of the teaching process in graphic art courses under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Maja Zemunik, Art.D., and Prof. Edvin Dragičević, Art.D.
The exhibition will be presented by the author of the accompanying text, Ivana Vukušić.
As Vukušić notes in her curatorial text:
“Reflections of the Matrix brings together works by students from different generations, reflecting the diversity of their artistic approaches, sensibilities, and research interests within the field of printmaking. Although thematically unconnected, the works collectively testify to the wide range of possibilities offered by the graphic medium — from symbolic to almost hyperrealistic, from recognizable figurative forms to entirely abstract ones.”
Through techniques such as etching, aquatint, linocut, soft ground, and photogravure, the artists explore the boundaries and potential of the graphic medium. Each approaches her work from a personal perspective and interpretation — ranging from introspective and symbolic imagery to documentary and environmentally engaged themes.
“Printmaking requires patience, perseverance, and a deep understanding of process, yet it is precisely through such dedicated work that it opens a space for endless possibilities of the print,” emphasizes Vukušić.
The exhibition Reflections of the Matrix is not only a showcase of student creativity but also an insight into the vibrant and diverse production that continues to evolve at the Arts Academy in Split.
The exhibition will remain open until October 31, 2025.
