Exhibition: “Eight Lanes – The History of Para Swimming in Croatia”

The Croatian Sports Museum, in collaboration with the Croatian Paralympic Committee and the Croatian Para Swimming Federation, is organizing an exhibition on the history of para swimming in Croatia, titled “Eight Lanes of the Hidden Frame – The History of Para Swimming in Croatia.”

The exhibition will open on Tuesday, 14 October at 11:00 AM in the atrium of the University Library and Rectorate, Ruđera Boškovića 31, Split, and will be on view until 31 October.

The exhibition is divided into five sections:

  1. The first section presents the development of parasports and para swimming in Croatia, tracing the historical evolution of the Croatian Paralympic Committee and the Croatian Para Swimming Federation.

  2. The second section highlights athletes in order of medals won at the Paralympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships, including Roko Mikelin Opara, Ana Sršen, Mihovil Španja, Kristijan Vincetić, Dino Sinovčić, Sanja Milojević, Ante Rađa, Emma Mečić, and Paula Novina. Other Paralympians are also featured, notably Nataša Sobočan, Matija Grebenić, and Tomi Brajša.

  3. The third section provides an overview of para swimming disciplines and sport classes.

  4. The fourth section covers the historical development of para swimming and a review of medals won at the Paralympic Games, World, and European Championships.

  5. The final section, titled “Beyond the Frame,” features interviews with medal-winning para swimmers: Emma Mečić and Ana Sršen, and para swimmers Roko Mikelin Opara, Dino Sinovčić, Mihovil Španja, and Kristijan Vincetić.

A digital version of the exhibition catalog (HSM_PARAPLIVANJE) is available. The exhibition is accessible to visually impaired visitors through audiodescriptions of texts in Croatian and descriptions of three objects. In cooperation with the Croatian Association of the Blind, the catalog is also printed in Braille and in enlarged black print.

Following the exhibition opening, a panel discussion for students of the Faculty of Kinesiology in Split will take place on the topic: “A Conversation on Sport and the Museum” at the Center of Excellence of Split-Dalmatia County (Ruđera Boškovića 20).
