The University of Cadiz hosts a workshop on the financial sustainability of the SEA-EU Alliance

The University of Cádiz has conducted a crucial workshop to define the long-term financial sustainability of SEA-EU. This event, held at the Faculty of Medicine, brought together finance experts and representatives from the SEA-EU offices of the nine universities in the alliance, with both in-person and online participation.

The rector of the University of Cádiz, Casimiro Mantell, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of this meeting to ensure the continuity of the alliance and its impact on the European academic and social sphere.

The day began with an introduction by Marcela Iglesias, General Coordinator of SEA-EU, who stressed the shared commitment of all institutions to explore funding strategies beyond the current funds. The agenda included a detailed analysis of the financing sources each university has obtained so far, followed by a discussion on best practices and possible collaborations to attract additional resources. Moreover, the workshop aimed to promote efficient resource use throughout the project’s life, which will help ensure the alliance’s sustainability over time.

After a break, the focus shifted to strategies for securing additional funds, led by Juan Ramón Real and Fernando Pérez, who proposed alternatives to expand the alliance’s financing opportunities. The afternoon included a productive dialogue with Iwona Jablonska, team leader for European Universities at the EACEA, the Executive Agency for Education within the European Commission.

During the second day, the workshop continued with an overview of the SEA-EU’s joint programs and an analysis of the financial agreements needed for their development. The sequence also included a review of the joint programs led by the universities of Brest, Split, and Cádiz, aimed at improving the financial agreements that strengthen the impact and reach of the alliance.
