The University of Algarve is pleased to invite you to participate in the upcoming Virtual language course titled “Portuguese Language (A1.1)”.
Course Aims:
The course will focus mainly on communication in academic context. By the end of this course, using basic grammatical and communicative structures (present simple, pronouns, turn taking etc.), participants should be able: to interact (orally and in writing) using familiar words and basic sentences to describe personal details and simple academic situations; to write context-driven short texts, containing for example time, date and place and fill forms with personal information.

– communicate orally in French in a clear and appropriate way;

This intensive course is designed for students aiming at learning how to communicate properly in the workplace, providing them with transversal written and oral communication skills in professional English. Specifically, the course is structured around all four language skills referring to the B2 level of the CEFR. After a general introduction to English for Professional Purposes (EPP), students will be provided with a comprehensive overview of the main written and oral genres of professional communication in English, including the CV, the business report, and the job interview. Students will also be taught some learning strategies to improve their vocabulary acquisition as well as their reading comprehension skills. The course consists of 10 online lectures. At the end of the course an online test will take place. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Employ the use of formal vocabulary and any necessary terminology in written communication related to university administration tasks. [colloquialisms and conversational tones to avoid in written communication]
- Design and construct clear, concise, and well-structured written documents suitable for formal communication within university settings. [focus on the editing process and manipulation of sentence structures]
- Create professional emails, reports, and letters adhering to the conventions of academic/formal English writing. [raising awareness of Context, Audience and Purpose]
