What is a SEA-EU Digital Internship?
Digital internship is a work- or research-based learning experience that takes place in a virtual or digital environment, rather than a physical workplace. It offers students the opportunity to engage in professional tasks, projects, or collaborations with employers or researchers through online platforms.
Communication and collaboration with supervisors, mentors, and team members are conducted using digital tools, such as video conferencing, email, instant messaging, and project management software. SEA-EU Digital Internships last from 1 to 6 months, with weekly workload assigned by the internship coordinator. Upon successful completion, the student is awarded a certificate, which they can later present during a job application process.
To succeed in a digital internship, students require a combination of IT technical, interpersonal, and self-management competencies. These competencies ensure they can work effectively in a remote setting, communicate professionally, and meet the expectations of the host organisation.
SEA-EU Digital Internships can be offered by companies, research organisations, NGOs, or public sector organisations.
Why is worth to undertake a Digital Internship?
Digital Internship allows you to apply what you’ve learned in a real work setting while developing key digital, communication, and problem-solving skills. It strengthens your employability by helping you build a portfolio and enhance your CV, all while offering the flexibility to participate remotely without the need for relocation.
Digital internships also open doors to international networking, enabling you to connect with professionals and peers from around the world. Most importantly, they prepare you for the future by teaching you how to work effectively in digital and hybrid environments, skills that are increasingly essential in today’s job market.
Did you know that 22% of people employed in the EU worked from home in some capacity, with about 10% doing so often? This statistic, among others, confirms the increasing need for key competences such as digital literacy, adaptability to new technologies and in-depth knowledge of cloud-based collaboration tools. During the SEA-EU Digital Internship, students will also learn modern communication skills, working in an international team and self-management.
