The Journalism and New Media Research Group is an active and interdisciplinary research environment focusing on journalistic practices, local journalism, games, and social media. Our research addresses journalism as a democratic institution under constant transformation due to technological developments, changing media use, and new arenas for public discourse. We study both professional journalism and user participation in digital spaces—from newsroom practices and media content to activism on social media and esports cultures.
The group is connected to two master’s programmes and collaborates with international partners in Finland, Sweden, Wales, the Netherlands, Poland, and Denmark. We host monthly hybrid research seminars and an annual international symposium. Visiting researchers are offered access to office space, library services, and opportunities to take part in seminars and collaborative projects.
The secondment has to take place between September 2025 – October 2025.
