Expanding library holdings and organizing academic events in North American Indigenous studies

The internship would consist of contributing to identify cutting-edge issues in Indigenous studies today and create a list of potential acquisitions to enrich the holdings in Indigenous studies of the library of the school of Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences, here at UBO. Under the supervision of the scholar in charge, the student would also be involved in reorganizing our library holdings in North American and Pacific Indigenous Studies. Also, the student would participate in the preparation and organization of several academic events at UBO (online seminars, one-day symposiums, student research events, etc.). Finally, the student would be participating in the project of setting up a French Association in Indigenous Studies.

The internship will take place in the HCTI research unit at the University of Brest. The concerned research axis is focused on the issue of Structures and Systems in the Americas. Indigenous issues such a sovereignty, identities, resurgence, and Indigenous ways of knowing will match the perspectives of that axis

The internship will be taking place in Brest and Quimper (transportation will be provided).

Tasks and duties entrusted to the student:

The internship would consist of contributing to identify potential acquisitions to enrich the holdings in Indigenous studies of the library of the school of Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences here at UBO. Under the supervision of the scholar in charge, the student would use their research in North American Indigenous Studies to complement library holdings. Also, the student would participate in the preparation and organization of several academic events at UBO, among which a conference on Indigenous issues that will be taking place in early March 2025. Finally, the student would be participating in the project of setting up a European association in Indigenous studies.

Skills to be acquired or developed:
  • Develop their research skills in building a bibliography
  • Specialize in Indigenous studies (North Americas and the Pacific)
  • Increase scientific and organizational skills related to academic events
  • Setting up a scholarly association
  • Develop social and scholarly interactions with UBO’s Masters’ and Doctoral students
