Have you ever wondered how sea-level change and the advent of agriculture affected the lifeways of coastal populations in the European Prehistory? The aim of this internship is to train the student in theoretical and practical aspects of geoarchaeological research, with emphasis on micromophology of prehistoric coastal sites, although other contexts can be addressed, according to the interests of the student. The student will be offered the possibility of taking the Geoarchaeology class of the Masters’s program at the University of Algarve (UAlg) (depending on availability in the semester he/she chooses). The student will have opportunity of investigating prehistoric coastal societies of the Mesolithic and Neolithic and understand the formation of shell middens and other type of coastal settlements on the advent of agriculture. Other activities include analysing the fauna and plant resources present at these sites from an Environmental Archaeology perspective. The host centre at UAlg, the ICArEHB, provides a dynamic and international community of researchers and students and a lively environment for networking, apart from library and laboratory facilities to conduct the tasks of the internship. Overall, it is aimed that the student can apply the learnings and resources acquired during the internship in his/her Masters’ thesis project and help preparing a future scientific career.
