SEA-EU at Kiel Week Festival 2024

Kieler Uni Live showcases range and diversity of university activities.

From the 22nd to the 30th June, Kiel University welcomed curious visitors of all ages to this year’s “Kieler Uni Live”. In the pavilion park situated on the city’s waterfront, the Kieler Uni Live program, part of the annual Kiel Week festival (‘Kieler Woche’ or “KiWo”), included exhibitions, hands-on activities, flash language classes and talks presented by a range of university institutes. In total visitors could choose from around 50 activities during the week during which ca. 8300 guests, including several school classes per day, visited the Kieler Uni Live Pavilion. This year’s ‘Bachelor of KiWo’ was also a success – honorary students of all ages were invited to swat up for their degree – upon completing several activities, participants were awarded a certificate, celebratory graduation photo and surprise gift.

In the SEA-EU tent, open for the second half of the week from 27th – 30th June, visitors were able to put their language and geography skills to the test and take part in a virtual research expedition across the Baltic Sea, as well as learning about the Alliance. In one corner of the tent a SEA-EU art exhibition took shape as artists of all ages drew their favourite sea creature or their ideas and hopes for coastal and ocean protection. From beginning to end of the event, the interest and enthusiasm of the visitors never waned, said SEA-EU project office manager Jonathan Durgadoo. “From school classes, family groups and students of all ages, the interest in learning was palpable throughout, and it was a pleasure to interact with so many people over the four days SEA-EU was presented at the Kieler Uni Live,” he adds.
