The SEA-EU alliance, which spans 28 cities where its member universities are active, underscores the importance of local collaboration. These cities, enriched by diverse cultural and maritime heritages, are integral to the network, offering a mosaic of communities for fruitful partnerships. Such collaborations can spark educational, social, and economic growth, embodying SEA-EU’s ethos of unity and cooperation across Europe’s coastal regions.
Puerto Real was founded by the Reyes Católicos in 1483. Despite this, studies and excavations show that settlements in the area date back to Prehistory, with sites like ‘El Retamar’. These settlements continued through Roman times, with sites such as ‘Puente Melchor’, ‘El Gallinero’, and ‘Villanueva’.
The Natural Park is one of the most relevant protected area of salt marshes and salt flats, covering about 100 square kilometers. Puerto Real contributes 32.5% of this area.
