SEA-EU Represented in the Mission to Quebec of the TRANSATLANTIC Project

The European University Alliance SEA-EU strengthens its international ties in Quebec with a focus on the Blue Economy

Irene de Andrés, Communications Manager of SEA-EU, represented the European University Alliance SEA-EU as part of the Andalusian Delegation in the “Mission to Quebec,” a strategic event under the TRANSATLANTIC Project, in which CEIMAR actively participates. This mission, held from October 28 to November 1, 2024, aims to connect representatives from European maritime regions, members of the Atlantic Arc Commission (CAA-CPMR), Forum Oceano, and CEIMAR, with Quebec’s maritime research, development, and innovation ecosystem.

During the session dedicated to transatlantic cooperation in research, the SEA-EU Alliance was presented, highlighting its pioneering initiatives such as joint degrees, which Mar Cerbán (member of the Joint Master coordination team) paused to explain in detail, included specifics about the Joint Master’s in Port Management and Logistics. Other initiatives were shared, such as the joint oceanographic campaign, and the Research Potential Database, underscoring these achievements as best-practice examples. SEA-EU was also present in the presentations of several key participants, including Guillaume St-Onge, Director of ISMER (University of Quebec at Rimouski), who has recently been appointed as a member of SEA-EU Advisory Board, spoke about the recent partnership of his institution as an external partner of SEA-EU, and Vianney Pichereau, Senior Vice-President, responsible for the Board of Directors and the Sea and Co-director of IFQM.

The Quebec mission also focused on the Blue Economy, addressing key topics such as sustainable maritime infrastructure, energy transition, and climate change adaptation. These focal areas align with SEA-EU’s objectives and Quebec’s regional priorities for sustainable development, promoted by entities like the Technopole Maritime du Québec, Réseau Québec Maritime, and the Quebec Ministries of Transport, Sustainable Mobility, and International Relations.

SEA-EU’s participation in this mission marks a significant step toward creating multilateral links between Europe and Quebec, establishing a foundation for future strategic collaborations that will foster innovation and sustainability in the maritime field on both sides of the Atlantic.
