UNIST Hosts BIP Programme: “Sustainable, Social and Participatory Learning for Innovative Transformation”

At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Split, the international educational programme Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled Sustainable, Social and Participatory Learning for Innovative Transformation (SPLIT) officially began today. The programme runs from 2 to 6 June 2025.

Organised under the Erasmus+ initiative, the programme is coordinated by the University of Split in partnership with universities from Kiel, Gdańsk and Cádiz. The implementation also involves the Split Technology Park and the SEA-EU alliance.

The programme focuses on social engagement, sustainable development and innovative learning methods. Through various thematic modules, participants are encouraged to identify social needs, design and implement project solutions, and strengthen their teamwork, creative thinking and project management skills. Emphasis is placed on participatory learning, a model that actively involves students in real-life social processes and co-creation of meaningful change.

The first two days of the programme are dedicated to lectures, workshops and fieldwork – including visits to local institutions, NGOs and the Split Technology Park – aimed at gathering inspiration and relevant input for further work. These are followed by two days of an intensive hackathon during which students, organised in teams and supported by mentors, develop solutions to current social and environmental challenges. The final day is reserved for project presentations, expert feedback and evaluation.

In addition to the on-site activities, the programme includes a final online reflection component, where students present their personal experiences and learning outcomes after the programme. Upon successful completion of all components, participants are awarded 3 ECTS credits and receive a certificate of attendance.

SPLIT BIP recognises the importance of education in shaping responsible and engaged individuals, offering a platform for interdisciplinary and international cooperation. It empowers young people to become agents of positive change in their communities.

This programme is part of a broader series of BIPs organised by the SEA-EU Alliance, hosted across its partner universities throughout Europe. Each BIP tackles different thematic areas – from sustainability and social innovation to digital skills and civic engagement. Students are warmly encouraged to take part in upcoming programmes and seize the opportunity for learning, collaboration and growth within this dynamic international academic community.
