University of Split hosted the first SEA-EU International week

From 5 to 9 May 2025, the University Department of Professional Studies in Split, Croatia, hosted the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) and International Week under the theme “Halfway there? Reaching the goal of 50% mobility”. This inspiring event gathered participants from 29 countries across Europe and the world to exchange experiences, explore best practices, and strengthen partnerships in the field of international education and mobility.

The physical event opened on Monday, 5 May, with warm welcoming words from Prof. Zoran Đogaš, Vice-rector for Internationalisation and Prof. Petar Pepur, Head of University Department of Professional Studies. A key highlight was the session on setting up a framework to measure mobility, covering both physical and online formats. SEA-EU joint bachelor’s programme in Sustainable Blue Economy was presented by Prof. Goran Ćorluka. The day was concluded with a Croatian language crash course and a cultural city tour of Split.

Tuesday was a workshop-intensive day, promoting cooperation in intercultural and inclusive environments. Topics included resilience at work, intercultural communication, systems thinking, generational communication strategies, and the fundamentals of AI, including the use of ChatGPT. After workshops, a session on “Inclusive Communication” was held by Prof. Viktorija Car and students Marijeta Babik and Rita Ančić, followed by a presentation on SEA-EU’s Social Hub by Prof. Ivana Jadrić.

The week’s programme continued with topics addressing institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange. Universities including UNIST, University of Cadiz, Gdansk, Viseu, Malta, Florida Universitària, and Nord University shared their successful BIP experiences. The day concluded with a lively discussion on how such initiatives contribute to reaching the ambitious goal of 50% student and staff mobility. A surprise evening event wrapped up the day with celebration and networking.

The final day took place at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MediLS). It featured a program evaluation and a forward-looking discussion on future international activities. Certificates were awarded, and the event closed.

The International Week in Split not only fostered meaningful dialogue and intercultural understanding but also underscored the collective ambition to strengthen mobility across all participating institutions. Participants enjoyed a social and cultural immersion on Wednesday during St. Domnius Day, the patron saint’s day of Split, which was an additional opportunity to experience local traditions and community spirit.
