SEA-EU Staff Week: The silence before the STORM

Imagine three days of engaging discussions, innovative ideas, and powerful collaborations—all set against the stunning backdrop of Split, Croatia. From February 25 to 27, 2025, academic professionals came together at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, University of Split, to exchange insights and refine strategies for the launch of  Joint Master’s Programme STORM.

Day 1

On Tuesday, representatives from the SEA-EU office, Professor Slađana Pavlinović Mršić, and Professor Kim Waechtler warmly welcomed the guests. Kim, who moderated the STORM, led the three-day staff week, crucial for setting the next steps for the joint Master’s program launch this Autumn. Once everyone settled in, experts from the University of Malta, Nord University, University of Brest, University of Gdańsk, and the University of Split gathered to review the project’s current status and progress. Discussions focused on dissemination strategies, with Kim dividing the group into two teams for brainstorming. Key conclusions were made on how to effectively communicate the programme to public. Afterwords, a debate on lecture structures and course agreements. The day wrapped up with a delightful dinner, where participants enjoyed traditional Dalmatian dishes like pašticada.

Day 2

On Wednesday, the day kicked off with a quick recap of the previous day discussions, setting the stage for the exciting sessions ahead. The spotlight then shifted to the Moodle platform, where the group explored its functionalities and saw firsthand how it’s shaping up. The morning and early afternoon were dedicated to fine-tuning of the teaching logistics for the first academic year, with a lively discussion wrapping things up. After all the hard work, it was time for some fun! Attendees set off on a sightseeing tour of Split, led by amazing Petra, our expert tour guide. Petra brought the history of Split to life with her engaging storytelling, showing us the city’s rich past while keeping things fresh and entertaining.

Day 3

The final day focused on academic working groups, refining syllabi and teaching materials, and exploring pedagogical innovation. Discussions on accreditation reports, feedback, finances, and teaching logistics will promised STORM’s successful launch. Our wonderful colleagues from Gdańsk brought doughnuts in honor of “Tłusty Czwartek” (Fat Thursday), a Polish tradition believed to bring a prosperous year ahead. The event ended up with a round-up session, outlining the next steps for STORM. This day was concluded with joyful dinner.

Conclusion

The SEA-EU STORM Staff Week was more than just a series of meetings—it was a dynamic, collaborative space where academic minds came together to brainstorm and plan for the future. There was laughter, some dancing, and even a few fiery debates, but in the end, a compromise was reached, and new goals were set. Surely, next generation of students will benefit from STORMy endeverous of our academics.

We can safely say that the slogan for this team is,“ The only way is up!
