Delegation from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Visits the University of Split

Last Thursday, the University of Split welcomed a delegation of 21 students from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) in Germany. The visit was part of a study trip focused on exploring the influence of the European Union on Croatian society, governance, and higher education.

The group included students from several German universities, among them the University of Cologne, University of Bochum, University of Passau, University of Münster, University of Nuremberg, University of Frankfurt, and University of Düsseldorf. Reflecting the Foundation’s interdisciplinary spirit, participants came from diverse academic backgrounds, including Law, Educational Sciences, Economics, and Medicine.

The initiative was led by Sarah Bermann, Chief Student Officer of the European University for Well-Being (EUniWell), who joined the visit in her personal capacity as a Konrad Adenauer Foundation scholarship holder. The group’s main goal was to understand how the European Union shapes academic and student life in Croatia, particularly through participation in European University alliances such as SEA-EU – the European University of the Seas, of which the University of Split is a member.

The visiting students were warmly welcomed by Prof. Zoran Đogaš, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Jerko Šarić, President of the Student Assembly, Roko Glavinović, student representative in the SEA-EU Governing Board, Ana Ćosić, Head of the International Relations Office, and Gordana Dujmović, Head of the SEA-EU Office. They engaged in a lively exchange on topics such as higher education cooperation, student engagement, mobility, innovation, and mental health — reflecting shared European priorities within the academic community, especially among students.

The meeting underscored the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s commitment to fostering intercultural understanding, academic excellence, and civic engagement, while also highlighting the shared European values that connect universities and students across borders. For the University of Split, the visit represented another step in strengthening dialogue and cooperation among European University alliances, bringing together the SEA-EU and EUniWell networks under a common vision of student-centred higher education.
