SEA-EU Photo Contest 2024: We have a winner!

The SEA-EU Photo Contest, now in its third edition, featured the theme “Art of Movement” this year. The contest garnered significant interest, receiving a total of 232 photographs from eight universities across the SEA-EU alliance. Each contestant was required to explain how their photo is related to the topic. The contest was open for submissions from April 15 to June 15 and each contestant could send up to three photos.  The photographs were evaluated by an international jury, consisting of one member from each alliance university. The jury’s vote accounted for 60% of the total score. The remaining 40% of the score came from the public voting.

The top-rated photographs will be showcased in an exhibition organized by the University of Malta during the Governing Week, which will take place from November 26 to 29, 2024. Last year, the photographs were exhibited during the Governing Week at the University Gallery in Split in November. You can see them here: https://sea-eu.org/photocontest/ .

The winner was announced on the official contest webpage https://sea-eu.org/photocontest/  and on the official SEA-EU Instagram profile.

Behind the Lens with Bruno Xavier

This year, the honor was awarded to Bruno Xavier from the University of Algarve for his photograph titled “The Missing Piece,” earning him a travel voucher worth 800 EUR. We spoke with this wonderful young man and he revealed us the details about his artistic expression and the photograph itself. For him, photography is about conveying a deeper narrative, and his latest photograph, with its black-and-white chessboard pattern, embodies his artistic vision. As an outdoor photographer, he always seeks the way how to portrait emotions and tell a story through his photos. It took about 25 minutes and a couple of tries to capture this year’s winning photo. The inspiration came from a unique location in Albufeira, which he discovered thanks to skateboarding association in Faro. Natural light played a crucial role, as they had only a short window of optimal light left after an afternoon of skating. Natural light played a crucial role, as they had only a short time of optimal light left after an afternoon of skating. His future goals include sharing his passion globally, hosting exhibitions, and inspiring others to create art. SEA-EU is proud of having rolled out the beginning of this beautiful story.  For more informations about Bruno’s artwork, visit these pages:
