Staff Week and SEA-EU International Conference on Service-Learning at UCA

This week, the University of Cádiz (UCA) hosted two significant events linked to the SEA-EU project: a Staff Week and an International Conference focused on the Service-Learning (SL) methodology. Both events took place at UCA’s Faculty of Medicine, attracting considerable participation from professionals and academics.
The Staff Week, centered on Service-Learning, brought together 25 professionals from partner universities within the SEA-EU Alliance. Throughout the week, a variety of sessions and presentations were held, all dedicated to the use and application of SL methodology in university contexts. This format allowed for the exchange of ideas and experiences among professionals from different institutions, fostering collaboration and mutual learning.
Concurrently, an International Conference on Service-Learning drew over 80 attendees. The conference featured plenary sessions and a poster exhibition set up in the corridors of the Faculty of Medicine, showcasing SL projects and experiences. These activities provided participants with opportunities to explore innovative approaches and learn from best practices in the field of Service-Learning.
The conference was officially opened yesterday by Fidel Echevarría, SEA-EU Alliance Coordinator, alongside Marcela Iglesias, Vice Chancellor for Internationalization at UCA, and Ivana Bilic, Coordinator of the SEA-EU Service-Learning Hub. The presence of these leaders underscored the importance of collaboration and commitment to promoting Service-Learning as a key methodology for academic and social development.
The organization of these events was led by University of Cádiz professors Mayka García, Manuel Cotrina, and Ana Zarzuela, members of the UCA SL expert group within the SEA-EU project framework. Their dedication and effort ensured the successful execution of the Staff Week and International Conference, providing a rich environment for knowledge exchange and promoting this valuable educational methodology.
These events reaffirm the SEA-EU Alliance’s commitment to educational innovation and Service-Learning, emphasizing the importance of these practices for the future of university education and community connection.
