SEA-EU CITIES

The SEA-EU alliance, which spans 28 cities where its member universities are active, underscores the importance of local collaboration. These cities, enriched by diverse cultural and maritime heritages, are integral to the network, offering a mosaic of communities for fruitful partnerships. Such collaborations can spark educational, social, and economic growth, embodying SEA-EU’s ethos of unity and cooperation across Europe’s coastal regions.

Puerto Real

The town of Puerto Real was founded by the Reyes Católicos in 1483. Although this date represents its entry into the scene in the Modern Age, the studies on finds located on the surface and the excavations carried out, date the population settlements in the area back to Prehistory (sites of “El Retamar”) and links them with romanization (sites of “Puente Melchor”, “El Gallinero”, “Villanueva” and others) sequentially.

The Natural Park is the most relevant protected natural space in the area of salt marshes and salt flats, with a total area of about 100 square kilometers, of which Puerto Real contributes with a 32.5%
