The SEA-EU Governing Week began on 25 November in Naples with a dynamic first day marked by strategic discussions, academic cooperation and strengthened community ties across the nine universities of the Alliance. Hosted by the University of Naples Parthenope, the opening day brought together more than 100 members of the 9 partner universities in a series of parallel meetings that set the direction for the days ahead.
Morning sessions focused on major developments for the alliance. The Vice-Rectors Committee advanced work on the standardisation of international activities, while reviewing updates on joint programmes, language initiatives and collaboration with networks such as ESN. The committee also addressed visibility targets, external partnerships and upcoming milestone events, reflecting SEA-EU ongoing consolidation as a European supercampus. At the same time, the Technical Working Group and Work Package Leaders carried out an in-depth review of project implementation, risks and indicators. A key moment of the day was the extensive discussion on impact indicators and the establishment of a common methodology, which required WP leaders to continue working in a dedicated parallel session due to the complexity of the topic. The Students Council also convened, welcoming new members and working collaboratively on ongoing project tasks, reaffirming the alliance’s commitment to student participation in decision-making.
A significant milestone of this Governing Week was the first-ever SEA-EU Deans Meeting, marking an important step in strengthening academic leadership. Discussions covered joint programmes development, European Degree initiatives, academic freedom, and opportunities to expand research and innovation collaboration across the consortium.
In the afternoon, the Quality and Ethics Committee reviewed progress on several key outputs, including updates to the Ethics and Quality Manuals, the SEA-EU AI Charter, the Joint Controller Agreement, and a series of important deliverables due in January 2026. Although a planned visit to the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station had to be cancelled due to weather conditions, the day ended on a warm note. Participants gathered for a social dinner enriched by a live traditional music performance, creating the perfect atmosphere to end the day together.
The Governing Week will continue with further meetings, strategic sessions, and cultural activities as SEA-EU continues shaping the future of its shared European coastal campus.
