Makarska is situated beneath the mountain of Biokovo, in the southern part of the Split – Dalmatia County. It is highly tourist-oriented with beautiful shingle beaches, numerous restaurants and other facilities that attract many guests during the summer months. It is located near the Nature Park Biokovo that offers its visitors an opportunity to get to know its beautiful nature. It has very pleasant climate (more than 2750 sun hours per year with an air temperature greater than 20 degrees from May to October).      
During their stay in Makarska, tourists can visit Astro-park and Observatory, one of eight museums and galleries, try the sports tourism (hiking, cycling, paragliding, rafting, scuba diving, fishing, etc.) or just enjoy the beautiful clear sea and the untouched nature. 
In 2019, the University of Split established the University undergraduate program of Hospitality and gastronomy in Makarska, a widely known tourist pearl on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast.
