Successful 2nd Inclusive and Solidarity Run/Walk Organized by Alliance SEA-EU and UALG

The 2nd Inclusive and Solidarity Run/Walk organized by GDAAUAlg (Sports Office) and ESEC (Sports Course) in collaboration with Alliance SEA-EU was an impressive success, showcasing an increase in participation and impactful contributions. The event, held on April 1st at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, drew in 186 registrations, marking a significant 30% increase compared to its inaugural edition. The participants included 100 individuals from the academic community comprising students, teaching and non-teaching staff, alongside 45 representatives from partner institutions and associations such as ACASO, ASMAL, and APPC. Notably, some participants represented a diverse range of pathologies including motor difficulties, highlighting the event’s inclusive nature. One of the event’s key highlights was its solidarity aspect. According to data collected from Strava, participants collectively contributed approximately 110 kilometers towards supporting institutions affiliated with the University of Brest, showcasing their dedication to charitable causes and community support. Additionally, the event also focused on community welfare through its food collection initiative. Managed by the UALG V+ Volunteering Office, around 40 kilograms of food products were gathered and delivered to CASA, demonstrating the event’s multifaceted approach towards fostering inclusivity, solidarity, and social responsibility. The collaborative efforts of Alliance SEA-EU, GDAAUAlg, ESEC, and various supporting entities both internal and external have not only made this event a success but also underscored the importance of such initiatives in promoting diversity, solidarity, and community engagement within the university and beyond. Internal support structures were: UALG V+ Volunteering Group; 2nd-year Sports Course class (Adapted Sports Curricular Unit); STUALG (Course Definition and Signaling); AAUAlg (human resources and logistical support); UALG Rectorate (providing complimentary t-shirts); UALG Communication and Protocol Office (Image production + registration link and event promotion / dissemination). Also, External support structures of the event were: Medical Support – Line Star Life Company (no cost – PRO-BONO service); FAGAR (Supply of mobile water point – no cost – PRO-BONO service); IPDJ (Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, Algarve delegation provided the arch). ACASO (Cultural and Social Support Association of Olhão); ASMAL (Algarve Mental Health Association); and APPC (Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Association, Faro branch) were as participating partner entities of this initiative.
