The official opening of the underwater photography exhibition “Through the Lens Underwater” took place on 11 December at 6:00 PM at the University Gallery.
The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the student Underwater Research Association (PIU) and presented the results of the project of the same name, funded by the Student Centre Split. The aim of the project was to bring marine biodiversity closer to students and to encourage interdisciplinary connections between diving, photography, and marine research.
The photographs were taken during practical fieldwork at several locations: the Brač–Hvar Channel, the Badija archipelago (Korčula aquatorium), Pomena on the island of Mljet, and the Cavtat archipelago, at depths of up to 18 metres. The project was carried out as part of a long-standing diving school programme organised by the association for students of the University of Split, under the professional guidance of instructor Igor Glavičić and with mentorship from underwater photographer Marin Trebotić.
The exhibition represented a combination of scientific approach, artistic expression, and education, highlighting the importance of preserving marine ecosystems and encouraging student engagement in research activities.
We were pleased to welcome visitors to the opening and to support the work of the University of Split student association. The exhibition remained open on 12 December as well.
