Parthenope University’s “Lives at stake”: the new frontiers of addiction, including prevention, health, and active citizenship

On 13 March 2026, Parthenope University of Naples took part in the conference “Lives at Stake: Institutions and Young People Discuss the New Frontiers of Addiction Between Prevention, Health, and Active Citizenship”, held at the Elsa Morante State High School in Naples. The initiative addressed emerging challenges related to addiction. In particular, it focused on prevention, public health and youth engagement.

The Addiction prevention Parthenope perspective was represented by Professor Fabrizio Rippa. He contributed to the dialogue between institutions and younger generations. Moreover, his participation highlighted the university’s commitment to raising awareness on issues that directly affect society and student communities.

A joint effort between institutions and youth

The event formed part of the initiatives promoted by the Anti-Usury Observatory of the Prefecture of Naples. This institutional body works to tackle social vulnerabilities, including addiction-related risks. Therefore, the initiative encouraged cooperation between schools, universities and public authorities.

In addition, discussions focused on the evolving nature of addiction. These included behavioural and digital dependencies. At the same time, speakers stressed the importance of equipping young people with the tools to make informed decisions. As a result, education emerged as a key factor in strengthening resilience and promoting active citizenship.

Promoting awareness and active citizenship

The conference provided an opportunity for meaningful exchange between students, educators and institutional representatives. Furthermore, it underlined the importance of early prevention strategies and accessible health support systems. It also highlighted the need for inclusive policies to reduce risk factors linked to addiction.

Through its participation, Parthenope University of Naples reaffirmed its role in supporting initiatives that connect academic knowledge with real-world challenges. Consequently, it contributes to a broader culture of awareness, prevention and civic responsibility.
