Activities related to the charity event La Solidaire de Brest took place at six partner universities of the SEA-EU alliance. Throughout March, students, researchers, and staff from coastal universities ran, each kilometer they covered meant a €1 donation to charity. To further engage academic communities, the universities also organized special sports events.
La Solidaire de Brest is an annual charity and inclusive running event, organized since 2017 by the University of Western Brittany in France. Its mission is to promote physical activity that is accessible to everyone—regardless of age, fitness level, or place of residence.
For its eighth edition, the initiative took on a virtual format—participants from across Europe recorded their activities via the Strava app. In addition, SEA-EU universities organized runs with routes ranging from 3 km to a half-marathon.
The events drew strong interest from academic communities. For example, over 250 participants took part in the run organized by the University of Algarve! Together, the universities raised thousands of euros for charitable causes. The funds were donated to organizations such as Les Joëlettes du bout du monde and the Surfrider Foundation, which work on behalf of environmental and social initiatives.
La Solidaire de Brest activities took place at the University of Algarve, the University of Cádiz, the University of Gdańsk, the University of Malta, the University of Split, and the University of Western Brittany in Brest.
Participants in La Solidaire de Brest not only promoted a healthy lifestyle, but also actively supported local communities. La Solidaire de Brest is one of many initiatives that unite SEA-EU university communities toward a common goal. Thanks to initiatives like this, we foster European solidarity across borders.
