Cultural Integration Activities for International Students at UAlg

The University of Algarve recently welcomed more than one hundred international degree-mobility students who chose to spend the second semester at UAlg through the Erasmus+ programme and other international cooperation agreements. As part of this welcome, a set of cultural, social and recreational activities was organised to help students integrate into university life and discover the city of Faro and the Algarve region.

Between 27 and 31 January, students took part in a diverse programme that included cultural visits, sports activities and campus tours. With the support of local institutions such as the Municipality of Faro, the Museum of Faro and the Faro Science Centre, participants were introduced to the region’s cultural heritage. They also visited the Penha and Gambelas campuses and attended the opening of the exhibition “The World at UAlg”, hosted at the Central Library of the Gambelas Campus, which highlights the cultural diversity of the academic community.

The group included students from partner universities within the SEA-EU – European University of the Seas, namely the University of Split, the University of Brest and the University of Kiel, reinforcing intercultural exchange within the alliance. The activities were supported by student volunteers from BRASA and ESN Algarve, as well as by Mobility Coordinators, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

During the official Welcome Session, students were introduced to the University of Algarve under the motto “Study Where Life Is Good” and received essential information about academic procedures and practical aspects of their mobility period. Initiatives like this reflect the University of Algarve’s strong commitment, within the SEA-EU framework, to cultural exchange, international cooperation and an enriching student experience.
