The SEA-EU Alliance community has gathered this week at the University of Cádiz for the staff week “Promoting Health on European Campuses: Building a SEA-EU Health & Well-being Network”. The event focuses on health promotion, mental health and well-being at European universities.
The SEA-EU staff week brings together around 20 participants from the alliance’s nine partner universities. Attendees work in areas related to university health, sports, student well-being and university life.
Opening session highlights the importance of health in European universities
The opening session featured remarks by Marcela Iglesias, General Coordinator of SEA-EU. She welcomed participants and stressed the importance of cooperation on health and well-being initiatives within European higher education.
During her speech, Marcela Iglesias highlighted the fact that all nine SEA-EU universities are represented at the meeting. She described this broad participation as especially meaningful for the alliance.
She also explained that the initiative was developed within the framework of the SEA-EU Vice-Rectors Committee. In addition, she thanked the organisers and participants for their involvement in the programme.
Marcela Iglesias encouraged attendees to make the most of the academic sessions and workshops. At the same time, she invited participants to discover Cádiz and experience the local university environment.
The opening ceremony also included contributions from Isabel Benavente and Félix Ruiz from the University of Cádiz. Participants also watched an institutional video introducing the four campuses of the University of Cádiz: Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Puerto Real and Algeciras.
Workshops and roundtables focus on well-being and collaboration
Throughout the week, the SEA-EU staff week includes roundtables, workshops and collaborative sessions. Topics include university health promotion, mental health support, physical activity, student well-being and Inner Development Goals.
The programme combines academic exchange with networking and practical well-being activities. Participants will also enjoy a yoga session at the beach and a guided tour of Cádiz.
Several sessions focus on mental health initiatives at SEA-EU universities. The programme also features presentations about the Psychological Counseling Service at UCA and health promotion projects such as “UCAcheckpoint”.
In addition, experts connected to the Spanish and European Networks of Health-Promoting Universities are taking part in the event.
SEA-EU strengthens cooperation in Health Sciences
Another important goal of the SEA-EU staff week is to strengthen collaboration between partner universities. Participants will discuss opportunities related to student mobility, joint teaching initiatives, research projects and staff exchange in Health Sciences.
Hosted at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cádiz, the initiative reflects SEA-EU’s commitment to building healthier, more inclusive and people-centred European campuses.
