SEA-EU participated in the high-level event Connecting Policy and Practice: What’s Next for Higher Education in Erasmus+, organised by the European University Foundation in Brussels on 20 and 21 April 2026. The meeting brought together representatives from higher education institutions, European networks, policymakers, and stakeholder organisations to reflect on the future of the Erasmus+ programme and the priorities for its next cycle beyond 2028.
Across two days of dialogue, participants addressed how Erasmus+ can continue evolving to meet the changing needs of universities and learners throughout Europe. Key topics included inclusion, simplification and digitalisation, green transition, governance and funding, global outreach, skills development, and the links between education, research, and innovation. The event also provided an opportunity for institutions to share practical experience and recommendations drawn from the implementation of the current programme.
A dedicated discussion on European University Alliances highlighted the growing strategic importance of alliances within Erasmus+. The session explored how alliances are contributing to deeper long-term cooperation between universities, new mobility models, joint educational pathways, and stronger European campus ecosystems. These discussions reflected the increasing recognition of alliances as key actors in the future development of European higher education.
As an active member of the European Universities Initiative, SEA-EU welcomed the opportunity to take part in these exchanges and to contribute its experience as a transnational alliance connecting nine coastal universities across Europe. Through initiatives such as joint programmes, innovative mobility opportunities, and institutional cooperation, SEA-EU continues to support the objectives of a more connected, inclusive, and forward-looking Europe.
By participating in policy-focused events such as this one, SEA-EU reaffirms its commitment to helping shape the future of Erasmus+ and to strengthening the European Higher Education Area through collaboration and shared ambition.
