From Cádiz to the Algarve: SeaBLUE students begin a new chapter

The University of Algarve (UAlg) has welcomed 13 international students who are now undertaking their second year of the Sustainable Blue Economy (SeaBLUE) degree in the Algarve during the 2026/2027 academic year. They completed their first year at the University of Cádiz, the programme’s coordinating institution.

SeaBLUE is the first joint Bachelor’s degree developed within SEA-EU and a pioneering programme in Portugal.

The welcome session brought together UAlg’s Vice-Rector for Partnerships and the European University of the Seas, the Directors of the Faculties of Sciences and Technology and Economics, the programme’s director at UAlg, and representatives of the International Relations and Mobility Office.

Students attended an institutional presentation and met some of their lecturers. A guided tour of Faro’s historic centre and a visit to the Ciência Viva Science Centre introduced them to the city’s cultural and scientific heritage.

SeaBLUE promotes international, multidisciplinary education addressing the challenges and opportunities of a sustainable blue economy, marking a milestone in European academic cooperation.
