SEA-EU Highlights Curriculum Internationalization at UDD International Week in Chile

The European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) has reinforced its position as a global leader in higher education innovation during the UDD International Week: Building a Global Campus, hosted by the Universidad del Desarrollo (Chile). The event, which brought together experts and academic leaders from around the world, focused on strategies for fostering international collaboration and global engagement in higher education institutions.

SEA-EU General Coordinator, Marcela Iglesias, was a key speaker at the event, delivering a thought-provoking keynote address titled “Maximizing Impact in Higher Education through Curriculum Internationalization.” The presentation delved into how curriculum internationalization serves as a cornerstone of effective internationalization strategies for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), enabling them to prepare students for the complexities of a globalized world.

Drawing from the SEA-EU alliance’s experience, the keynote explored the transformative potential of embedding internationalization into every aspect of the curriculum. The speaker highlighted the importance of addressing not only the formal elements of curriculum design but also the informal and hidden dimensions that shape students’ educational experiences and global competencies.

The presentation also emphasized the alignment of the Spanish Higher Education System with the broader goals of the European Education Area, underscoring how collaborative efforts within Europe are paving the way for innovative approaches to higher education. The University of Cádiz’s institutional journey toward defining and implementing its own internationalization strategy was presented as a case study, showcasing how SEA-EU has played a pivotal role in driving progress in this area.

Furthermore, the General Coordinator underscored the alliance’s mission to create a European Interuniversity Campus, where curriculum internationalization is at the heart of educational reform. The SEA-EU Alliance, uniting nine coastal universities across Europe, was presented as a model for leveraging collaborative efforts to enhance global engagement and foster meaningful academic connections across continents.

The participation of SEA-EU in UDD International Week demonstrates the alliance’s unwavering commitment to building bridges between Europe and Latin America. By sharing best practices and promoting innovative strategies, SEA-EU continues to lead the way in shaping the future of higher education.
