PhD candidates from across Europe gathered in Bodø with a shared goal: to become better university lecturers for their students.
Participants from different academic fields, institutions and countries spent a week at Nord University’s Bodø campus in April, taking part in an intensive course focused on teaching skills.
Over five days, they shared experiences, discussed challenges and explored practical methods they plan to test in their own teaching.
“The course is designed to help participants develop as lecturers. Building on their previous experience and knowledge, they learn and grow in their roles as part of an inclusive international community of colleagues,” explains Professor Anna CohenMiller from PLUS at Nord University.
The course is funded by the Sea-EU alliance, of which Nord University is the only Norwegian member, and was organized in collaboration with PLUS and partners Myriam Guichard of University of Brest (France), Aleksandra Koszarek-Cyra at University of Gdansk (Poland) and Antonio Manuel Brenes Castano at the University of Cadiz (Spain).
Together, they work to develop new and creative approaches to teaching.
The cross-cultural programme focused on university pedagogy for PhD candidates, student-active learning, and presentation and communication. After digital learning lessons, participants from several European countries met in person in Bodø. They will also meet online in May to finalize the course.
The participants expressed high satisfaction with the course and highlighted specific teaching methods they plan to apply in their own classrooms.
“I teach students in international topics, so I am here to learn more – and I have learned a lot. I have learned methods that I can use when I get home both in teaching with the students, and for myself, says Mariusz from Poland.”
