The SEA-EU Alliance was highlighted at the event “Algarve Blue Economy Innovation and European Funds”, held on 9 April at the headquarters of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Algarve), in Faro, Portugal.
Organised by the Ireland Portugal Business Network, in collaboration with the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission — a SEA-EU stakeholder and representative in the Cities Council — the event brought together decision-makers, researchers and regional stakeholders to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of the blue economy.
One of the key moments of the session was the intervention of Patrícia Pinto, Vice-Rector of the University of Algarve for Partnerships and the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), who presented the Alliance and its contribution to the promotion of the blue economy. In her presentation, she highlighted SEA-EU’s role as a strategic platform for the development of the blue economy, showcasing concrete actions in education, research, innovation and stakeholder engagement, as well as key initiatives such as joint programmes, the Observatory of the Sustainable Blue Economy and collaborative projects addressing coastal and maritime challenges.
The session also included contributions from Maria de Lurdes Serpa Carvalho, from CCDR Algarve, who presented the Algarve’s Smart Specialisation Strategy, and from Antónia Correia, President of KiPT CoLAB, also a SEA-EU stakeholder through the University of Algarve, who introduced the CodeBLUE project.
This event reinforced the importance of collaboration between SEA-EU and its regional stakeholders, highlighting the role of CCDR Algarve as a strategic partner in promoting a more sustainable and innovative blue economy.
