The Penha Campus of the University of Algarve (UAlg) hosted, on 28 May, the 4th edition of the “Second Life” Fair, an initiative promoted within the framework of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), in collaboration with the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg), which once again encouraged practices of reuse, sharing and conscious consumption among the academic community.
Held between 12:00 and 16:00, the initiative brought together dozens of students, academic staff and university employees, who had the opportunity to give a new life to various items donated by the academic community, including clothes, footwear, accessories and books.
The opening session included welcoming remarks by the Pro-Rector for Sustainability Sciences, Vânia Sousa, and the Local Technical Manager of the SEA-EU Alliance at the University of Algarve, Milene Lança, who highlighted the importance of participatory actions that encourage the academic community to adopt more conscious, responsible and sustainable practices, while also presenting the origins and objectives of the fair.
The fair is part of Task 4.4 – “SEA-EU Goes Greener”, an SEA-EU initiative that promotes concrete sustainability actions across the alliance’s university campuses and encourages the active involvement of the academic community in building greener and more resilient universities.
Some of the participants’ favourite items from the fair:
The initiative originated from one of the winning ideas of the “Greening Our Campus” contest, a SEA-EU local programme that challenges the academic community to propose concrete ideas aimed at making university campuses more sustainable.
Throughout the afternoon, the fair also benefited from the support of AAUAlg volunteers, whose contribution was essential to the organisation and promotion of the activity.
With another edition of the “Second Life” Fair, the University of Algarve reinforces its commitment to sustainability and to promoting a culture of environmental responsibility, demonstrating how small collective actions can contribute to a positive impact both within and beyond the academic community.
